After spending several years with the Wasserfolk, the boy begins to yearn for sunshine and air. One summer day when he is off to sing and play with the Wassermann's daughters, playing his flute on the river rocks among the reeds, he recognizes his old home. His foster sister, who brought him up, recognizes the plaintive tune, and comes running...
