EDIT: uploaded a photo rather than the crappy scan I posted the other day which made all the colours come out way too shrill. This is SO MUCH NICER and more representative of the original -- WHYEVER do they tell us that scanning is the way to go when digitizinga artwork? Nothing substitutes for good natural light IMHO.

One of the good things about moving house is, one has to go through all one's stuff. I found a little stack of abandoned artwork (and a few completed paintings that I had completely forgotten I had ever done, talk about Alzheimer's!).

This watercolour space landscape was started a few years ago, must have been when I was still participating in John Howe's monthly theme challenges - guess I did this for one of the Science Fiction themes way back when. I got as far as the luminous pink clouds and pyramidical cristalline mountains, but was stuck for a foreground. So when I dug this up now, I started doodling and these space clown flamingo worm things appeared... don't ask me wherefrom.

Sometimes I seriously wonder what my brain looks like on the inside. :O

Wow, but those flamingo worms look really cool and they really fit into the picture. I like it that they are so much darker and stronger than the rest of the painting. Just like all figures appear as dark silhouettes if you take a photo of them against a bright light.
The background is spellbinding too. Luminous and glowing.

thanks! :) It was just a bit of a doodle, I did like the background and didn't want to waste the image, but watercolours are not my strong point... I think the colours turned out far too garish - though this may partly be the fault of my scanner... - but yes I am pleased with the dark/light effect.

Glad you like it! :)

Working on a watercolour illustration of "Left Hand of Darkness" at the moment. See how that goes. Hoes does one paint white-out?? :O

Still Frodo the wanderer from the Shire would walk there, upon the grass among elanor and niphredil in fair Lothlorien.
